Devon Newburn (M.M. 2013) returns to Oxford to perform this recital as part of a multi-state tour. Having won first prize in the Memphis Beethoven Club’s Young Artist Competition in 2013, he played a solo recital in Memphis the following year featuring works by Latin American composers. Devon resides in Longmont, Colorado with his wife Noelani. Together they maintain Newburn Music Studios, and Devon is also active in the Denver metro area as a collaborative pianist and dance musician.
In October 2014 he performed with colleague Sonya Clark a four-hand piano arrangement of Smetana‘s tone poem “Die Moldau.” Devon is on faculty at Parlando School for the Arts in Boulder Colorado, and also holds the position of Staff Pianist at Longmont Dance Theatre, where he frequently improvises in various styles for ballet classes. In summer 2015 he will play at the Colorado Ballet and at the Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensive in Denver. Hiking, reading, composing, and co-directing a community chorus with Noelani also fill his time.
