A press conference was held today announcing the Double Decker sponsors, artwork, and music schedule for the Ole Miss Athletics sponsored stage. We have compiled the music below.
Saturday
Riverside Voodoo (10:15 – 11:15 am)
Riverside Voodoo originated in 2011 in Oxford, MS and has since been steadfast in contributing to the evolving and progressive music scene that currently thrives in the American South. The four piece fusion of drums, keys, guitar, and bass keeps the make-up simple, while the music pushes these instruments to blend genres and explore new boundaries. The band has been described with an array of genre descriptions from acid rock to blues jam, but simply, it’s rock and roll with a little bit of everything.
Delta Springs (11:30 am – 12:30 pm)
Delta Springs is an American rock band hailing from Oxford, MS. The band was formed in 2014 when childhood best friends, Sam Stevens (lead vocals/rhythm guitar) and Will Smith (Lead guitar/Vocals) ran into drummer Watson Turnipseed whom they had not seen since prepubescent years. After playing several local gigs, the band added incredible bassist Patrick Mink and began recording bangers shortly after.
Leo “Bud” Welch (1 – 2 pm)
Leo “Bud” Welch Sr. was born in Sabougla, Mississippi in 1932. Bud picked up a guitar for the first time in 1945. Bud and a cousin would sneak and play the guitar while the actual owner of the guitar (Bud’s older cousin R.C. Welch) was away working. As he became confident in his ability to play guitar, Bud was caught red handed by the owner of the guitar, playing the forbidden to touch instrument. Bud’s older cousin was so impressed with his playing that he gave Bud free reign to continue playing the guitar.
Christone KINGFISH Ingram (2:30 – 3:30 pm)
Christone “Kingfish” Ingram was born to Princess Pride Ingram and Christopher Ingram in 1999. Exposed to the rich Gospel music emanating from his family’s church, combined with the Blues he heard being played by musicians in his Delta neighborhood, also learning at the Delta Blues Museum under the tutelage of Daddy Rich and Bill Howl-N-Madd Perry and being a cousin to the great and legendary Country music singer, Charlie Pride, Kingfish became a natural sponge of musical talent.
The Bellfuries (4 – 5 pm)
From their hometown of Austin, TX, The Bellfuries are constantly within earshot of the latest catchphrase and new brands are always within their peripheral view.
Orgone (5:30 – 6:30 pm)
For over a decade, Orgone has been steaming up stages all over the country and drenching the biggest music festivals in sweat. Orgone’s sound is a cold-blooded blend of deep soul, rare funk, and afro-disco with raw rock star edge that is uniquely LA.
Lettuce (7 – 8 pm)
For more than two decades, Lettuce have brought a new vitality to classic funk, matching their smooth and soulful grooves with a hip-hop-inspired urgency and mastery of beat. Formed in 1992, when several band members attended a summer program at Boston’s Berklee College of Music as teenagers, Lettuce was founded on a shared love of legendary funk artists like Earth, Wind & Fire and Tower of Power.
Michael Franti & Spearhead (8:30 – 10 pm)
Michael Franti is a musician, filmmaker and humanitarian who is recognized as a pioneering force in the music industry. Long Known for his Globally conscious lyrics, powerful performances, and dynamic live shows, Franti has continually been at the forefront of lyrical activism, using his music as a positive force for change.
