The University of Mississippi will host the World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest comes to Oxford, MS on May 26–30.
The contest is open to any who wish to compete in at least one of the five contests.
Throughout the weekend, events will be occurring at Nutt Auditorium, Proud Larry’s, Local’s, and Shelter on Van Buren.
To launch the weekend off on Thursday, Proud Larry’s will host the tune-up party where contestants and guests warm up for the weekend. Admission is $10 advance and $15 at the door.
In addition to competitive piano playing, the championship will also offer workshops, guest artist concerts, a sing-along variety show, a double-decker bus tour of historic Oxford, the Ring of Ragtime on the Oxford Square and a chance play in the Old-Time Orchestry.
Marketed as “a weekend packed with Ragtime, Tin Pan Alley and Standard tunes played by amazing piano players,” there should be something to draw you out for a great time of Oxford culture and classic rag-time tunes.
Early bird weekend passes are $105 until May 1. Single event passes can be purchased, ranging from $10–$35 depending on event. A schedule of events has been included below.
