On Thursday, December 8, from 6 pm–7:30 pm, North Light Gallery and Oxford Writes will co-host a reception at The Orchard in Oxford, highlighting some of Walt Mixon’s memorable photos. Mixon, one of Oxford’s all-time favorite photographers who left the world a multitude of wonderful pictures, died in 2008.
Mixon’s son, Avery, who provided the photos, will be a special guest at the reception and will comment on his father’s work.
Also as a part of the event, seven writers from the Oxford Writes group will be featured. The seven responded to one of Mixon’s photos in a genre of their choice, and each handwritten response is an important and unique part of this exhibit.
The featured writers for this event are Wesley Bell, Jason Lucas, Don Ross, Dave Waddell all from Oxford, Carol Easley and Sandra Hamilton of Calhoun County, and Galen Holley of Belden.
Visitors that evening will have the opportunity to interact with the writers through brief interview questions which will be used to enter a drawing for a gift certificate to Square Books. The writers will also have the opportunity to read a portion of their work.
The reception is free and some of Oxford’s favorite food offerings will be available.
North Light Gallery is located at 295 Highway 7 North inside the Orchard in Oxford.
The event will conclude 2016 activities for North Light Gallery and Oxford Writes. North Light Gallery is in its third year as a part of Oxford’s arts scene. Oxford Writes, with its mission to advance the art of writing and to involve writers of all levels in its projects, is in its first year as a part of the Oxford writing community.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, December 8, for this special event.
