Memphis rapper Marco Pave, New Orleans‘ Alfred Banks, and Oxford-resident Stork will all be performing a free show at Proud larrys’ Monday, April 10.
The pizza shop and live venue has been making steps in booking more hip hop concerts over the past several months, having brought Denzel Curry and Jackson, Mississippi anime-rapper SilaS.
Pave has been a staple of the Memphis hip hop scene for some time now and was even asked by Mayor AC Wharton to write a song that best exemplifies what the city has to offer. The rapper has also shared the stage with Kevin Gates while opening for the “2 Phones” singer/rapper on tour.
Banks combines pop-rap with trap to make a sound reminiscent of the New Orleans hip hop community but still unique all his own. The performer is making waves with his newest release, The Beautiful, a conceptual album addressing schizophrenia, the complexity of identity, and his brother’s mental illness. Complexity named banks in the top 10 rising rappers of New Orleans.
Stork is a name many will recognize, having lived in Oxford since arriving to run track for Ole Miss years ago. Growing up listening to classic rap, from LL Cool J to NWA and on, Stork has been hooked on hip hop since the age of 10. His rapid style refuses to sacrifice flow, quickly slipping in and out of double or triple time. You’ll not want to miss this great to chance to see some of the South’s premier hip hop MCs performing for free.
