Inaugural arts festival aims for a diverse lineup of musicians and artists.
The inaugural MissiHippi Music & Arts Festival is taking place August 24, 2019 (the Saturday before Ole Miss fall classes begin) at Foxfire Ranch in Waterford, Miss., just 25 minutes north of Oxford. MissiHippi, the first festival of its kind in North Mississippi, is much more than just a back-to-school bash. It features an incredibly diverse lineup of multiple genres, including rock, funk, hip-hop, EDM, indie, and soul.
Mississippi is a state known for its rich musical history. On their website, www.MissiHippi.com, the festival organizers state that their “ultimate goal is for Mississippi to not only be the Birthplace of America’s Music, but also the pinnacle of America’s music! We will do this by providing unforgettable experiences at our events while also empowering the next generation of Mississippi musicians. We will donate a portion of our profits to furthering the music education of Mississippi youths by donating to Mississippi public schools to buy new instruments, offering scholarships to music camps, and much more.” By attending MissiHippi Fest, you are doing more than just experiencing a music festival; you’re directly impacting a child’s life. And maybe that child will go on to headline a festival like MissiHippi.
Whether you’re a local resident excited for a music festival of this magnitude in North Mississippi, you’re looking for a way to celebrate reconnecting with friends, you’re excited to make some new friends, or you’re simply looking for a fun Saturday getaway, MissiHippi is the place for you. The goal is to promote incredibly talented Mississippi musicians and artists while also bringing in premier regional and national acts to provide a truly remarkable experience. MissiHippi Fest hopes to provide attendees with an experience impactful enough to extend beyond the fences of Foxfire Ranch. By creating a sense of community and appreciation of music and the arts, especially for the incredibly talented Mississippi artists, they hope attendees will carry their experience with them for years to come.
Doors will open at 11:30 am, and there will be nonstop live music from 15 bands on two stages until 1:30 am. The MissiHippi activities schedule features multiple live art exhibits showcasing some of the South’s most talented artists. The artists will be creating murals that will be astonishing works of art, while providing Insta-worthy photo ops.
Hot Yoga Plus will be offering three yoga classes in the exclusive HYP shaded lounge at 2:25 pm, 3:50 pm, and 6:55 pm. And in case you end up with the munchies, there will be food options featuring the region’s favorite food trucks from Memphis to Jackson, including some local Oxford favorites. Of course, MissiHippi will provide a hydration station with free water so you can stay hydrated! Near the hydration station will be a 20’x10’ misting tent to keep you cool.
Sponsors include local and national businesses, with Oxford’s own Landshark Delivery sponsoring the main stage. VIP sponsor Hempville CBD will also be a vendor at the festival. White Claw, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and Bon & Viv are official sponsors, so whether you’re a White Claw enthusiast or just want a cold beer, your thirst will not be left unquenched. Other sponsors include Office Depot, MaxxSouth, Ez-Rydr, Blue Clock Designs, Firehouse Subs, Stewart Farms Fresh, Uncommon, The Retreat, Campus Creek, and The Hub.
For those interested in taking a piece of MissiHippi home with them, there will be art vendors from throughout the Southeast selling original work, and MissiHippi will have a variety of merchandise available, including shirts, posters, stickers, and koozies (or huggies if you’re hip).
