The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour has announced its 2019–2020 winter broadcast schedule as well as details for its upcoming holiday-membership party. The party will be held Friday, December 6 from 6-–9 pm at Southside Art Gallery at 150 Van Buren Avenue. The event will feature live music by Thacker’s house band, the Yalobushwhacker Holiday Band with special guest, Alphonso Sanders. Food and drink will be provided by local caterers, Party Waitin’ To Happen, The Main Event, Cathead Vodka, and The Growler.
The party is free to current members. Memberships (new or renewed) are available at the door for $50 (single), $75 for couples, and $20 for students. Memberships are good for one year. This year’s auction items include the popular “Oxford Town Progressive Dinner,” a dinner for six with each course provided at the home of a different Oxonian. Other unique items include a forage for chanterelle mushrooms and dinner at TriBecca Allie Cafe in Sardis; a bourbon tasting and digging for records at The End of All Music; and a two-night stay with fly-fishing lessons on Splinter Creek, located south of Oxford. Also available is a premium package including cooking lessons from Home Place Pastures outside of Como, Mississippi; mixology lessons at Saint Leo; Double Decker VIP passes and a Mardi Gras weekend in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Artwork from area artists and those with ties to the region include Dick Waterman, Glennray Tutor, Bill Dunlap, David Rae Morris, and Bruce Newman. A series of watercolors of Thacker authors, musicians, and crew, painted in “real time” during the live performances of the show by Gay Graeber-Stubbs, will be of special interest.
The show has also posted its broadcast schedule for December and January 2020, culled from recent live shows. Authors to be featured include Pulitzer Prize-winning southern sage, Rick Bragg, 2019 National Book Award winner, Sarah M. Broom, bestselling British travel writer (turned Mississippian) Richard Grant, Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell, and Thurber Prize-winning humorist Harrison Scott Key.
Musical guests will include soul legend Dorothy Moore, pop-soul firebrand Maggie Rose, fiddle groover Amanda Shaw, Thacker co-founder, TB Ledford & The Accumulators, southern rockers Will Kimbrough, Charlie Mars, Eden Brent, and many more.
