Evening of Art & Music to be Held October 3 in Historic Downtown Greenwood- And More Music October 5
GREENWOOD, MISS. – Main Street Greenwood is excited to announce event details for Art Alfresco 2013. One of Main Street’s longest running events, Art Alfresco is an evening of art in downtown Greenwood. Local merchants and retailers open their doors to host an artist’s work in their shop on the first Thursday of each October.
The event will be held on October 3, 2013 from 5–8 pm.
This year will feature the solo/duo portion of the 1st Annual 3 Rivers Songwriter Competition. In addition to works of art, live music will fill the streets of Downtown Greenwood. Singers and songwriters will be featured at the corners of Howard and Market, Howard and Washington, and Howard and Church Streets throughout the evening to compete for a chance to travel to the International Blues Competition in Memphis, Tennessee.
Art enthusiasts will have a chance to bid on a piece of work by each retailer’s featured artist at the first Alfresco Auction. This silent auction will be held in the Delta Room of the Alluvian Hotel. Proceeds will go to benefit Main Street Greenwood and its revitalization efforts in downtown Greenwood.

3 Rivers Songwriter Competition
The 3 Rivers Songwriter Competition will be held during the evenings of October 3 and October 5, 2013, and will feature solo/duo performances as well as band performances.The solo/duo portion of the competition will be during Art Alfresco in downtown Greenwood on October 3 from 5–8 pm. The band portion of the competition will be during the Mississippi Blues Fest on Saturday, October 5 from 5–7 pm.Entry fees for solo/duo acts is $15, and $25 for bands. Registration deadline is October 1st.Winners of the competition will receive a cash prize and an automatic entry into the Mississippi Delta Blues Challenge in Indianola. From there, winners will be eligible to compete in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.The 3 Rivers Songwriter Competition will be held during Bridging the Blues (BTB), a series of Blues events taking place over several consecutive weeks, aiming to maximize the opportunities for visitors to discover the richness of the blues tradition in the Mississippi Delta region.
