March 25 | 6-8 PM | The Powerhouse | Free & Open to the Public
The Big Bad Business Series returns with its next installment, “How to Protect Your Big Ideas,” on March 25 from 6-8 PM at The Powerhouse. This free workshop, hosted by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Oxford-Lafayette County Economic Development Foundation, will provide entrepreneurs and small business owners with essential knowledge on intellectual property (IP) and how to safeguard their creative work.
What is intellectual property?
It includes anything you create that represents your business or brand—such as your logo, product designs, business name, original content, and so much more. Understanding how to legally protect these assets can prevent others from using them without your permission.
Leading the discussion is Dr. Jerry Martin, a business counselor and technology commercialization expert at the RISE Center at Ole Miss (Resources for International Success and Expansion). With over 25 years of experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property law, Dr. Martin will break down the basics of trademarks, copyrights, patents, and contracts in an accessible way. Whether you’re launching a new business or already established, this workshop offers practical advice to help you secure your ideas and grow your brand.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, connect with other entrepreneurs, and gain valuable insights into protecting their work. Light refreshments will be served, and networking will follow the discussion.
The Big Bad Business Series (BBB) is a collection of workshops designed to support local entrepreneurs—especially those in creative fields—by offering real-world advice from experts in various industries. The series is free and open to the public, thanks in part to funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mississippi Arts Commission.
