Cadillac Funk’s debut record is out now! Andrew Yurkow and friends have been making music in this band for over five years now, and this ten-track collection takes me right back to every Cadillac Funk show I’ve attended. It’s like having Rooster’s Blues House in your house!
The album was recorded and sound engineered by Cedric Williams at Quarter After Blue in Tupelo. Yurkow’s deep voice and guitar riffs take center stage from beginning to end, plus he plays keys on three of the tracks. Throughout the record, local artist and musician James Daigle holds down the low end on bass while Joseph Reed plays drums, and Daniel Hodges plays a mad saxophone. Johnny Blackthorn White shines as the featured vocalist on “Nothin for Free” and “Never in My Arms.” And Lisa Lynch Wolfe adds her dulcet tones to “The Way That I Love You.”
The album is rife with soulful electric guitar and powerful words, and continues to completion in bluesy, funky style, telling the story of a man’s strife with life through mad guitar riffs and grooves.
You can (and should) listen to this album. You can download the album from iTunes or from Yurkow’s new website: cadillacfunk.net. The website also has a link to buy a signed CD (now in stock!), photo, or poster, t-shirts, and Cadillac Funk pint glasses.
Support local music! As of the date of this post, Cadillac Funk is scheduled to play on June 27th at The North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic and at Foxfire Ranch in Waterford, Miss. on June 29.
