An independent horror film titled Sheltered Life will begin shooting in Oxford this summer. Oxford business owner and author, Stephen Donnelly, wrote the original script last year with the City of Oxford specifically in mind.
“Oxford is a beautiful city and I want to see if I can capture the power of a Mississippi summer on film.” Donnelly stated.
The production is casting for several roles both male and female at The Powerhouse on April 15 from 1 pm till 7 pm. Forty roles are available to be cast and both seasoned actors as well as novices are welcome to audition. Already cast in the lead roles are local favorite Johnny McPhail, Houston Nutt III, and Irish-born actor Brendan Keane. The production is also courting local musicians such as Shannon McNally for their musical and thespian chops.
“We want to use as much local music as possible in the film,” Donnelly said. “I want the soundtrack to be as much of a showcase for Oxford talent as the visual images.”
Anyone who is interested in being a crew member should also come to The Powerhouse on April 15 to meet the producers for jobs. Available positions are set design, wardrobe, script supervisor, grips, sound, and lighting. The filming of the full length feature will employ the production techniques made famous by Roger Corman in that anyone who is interested in developing their desired trade can learn it with hands-on experience in lieu of payment. Actors will not be paid as the film is to be shot under $20,000. The film will be shot during the months of May, June, and July. Additionally, an e-mail notice of your interest in front of or behind the camera or of providing additional music can be sent to shelteredlife2012ATgmail.com and is appreciated.
