In his first interview since Tuesday’s runoff election, Chris McDaniel went on Fox News’ “Hannity” television program Thursday night and told host Sean Hannity his team has found “1,000 examples in one county alone” of people who voted in both the Democrat Party Primary on June 3 and the Republican Runoff on June 24.
Under Mississippi law, it is illegal for people who vote in one party’s Primary to vote in another party’s Runoff election.
Thad Cochran narrowly beat McDaniel in the Republican Runoff Tuesday night with 191,508 votes (50.9%) to McDaniel’s 184,815 votes (49.1%). That is a difference of only 6,693 votes. The runoff occurred because neither Cochran nor McDaniel received more than 50% of the vote on June 3.
McDaniel’s campaign has ten days to examine ballot boxes and voters logs. McDaniel said Thursday night that his team is still examining voter logs, comparing them to registers from the June 3 Primary.
McDaniel would have to sue in order to force a new election.
