Mississippi Republican Senatorial candidate Chris McDaniel will be in Oxford, Mississippi on Friday, June 13 and there are two chances to meet him.
At 8:00 am McDaniel will be at the Beacon Restaurant located at 1200 North Lamar Blvd. At 11:00 am McDaniel will be at Hunter’s Hollow located at 658 Highway 6 West.
Challenger Chris McDaniel and incumbent Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran are facing each other in a Runoff Election on Tuesday, June 24 after neither candidate was able to secure 50% of the initial vote. McDaniel narrowly beat Cochran statewide on June 3, with 155,040 votes (49.5%) to Cochran’s 153,654 (49.0%). That’s a difference of only 1,386 votes statewide.
In Lafayette County, however, the margin was much wider. Thad Cochran recieved 2,793 (64.3%) votes, while Chris McDaniel only recieved 1,513 (34.8%).
Cochran has been campaigning heavily this week in counties where McDaniel did well on June 3, including McDaniel’s hometown of Laurel, Mississippi. It appears McDaniel is doing the same by campaigning in Oxford.
Thad Cochran is from Pontotoc County, went to Ole Miss and now owns a house in Lafayette County. Cochran was first elected to U.S. Congress in 1972 and then Senate in 1978.
Chris McDaniel is an attorney and former radio personality who was elected to the Mississippi state Senate in 2008. McDaniel is a favorite of the Tea Party, while Cochran is a favorite of the Republican establishment.
