Digging began to sample soil for the downtown parking garage, but after 20 ft a concern was unearthed.
It turns out that the parking lot behind the University Club, the decided location for the future parking garage, was long ago a ditch used as a landfill for business located on The Square. Trash included packaging materials, various debris, and even whole tires.
Trash became present at 20 ft down and showed no sign of stopping. Estimations of depth are currently up to 70 ft but exact measurements have not been made as of publishing.
It is currently unknown what impact this will have on the project.
