The old fire truck at Avent Park entertained many a local kid. We drove the big rig, we rode shotgun, and we manned the top turret on the way to countless fires. By the time the city decided it was becoming dangerous, the old truck was nearly shapeless.
Ernest Oliver’s picture of his son’s cowboy-themed birthday party at the park is a Norman Rockwell-worthy image of Oxford, Avent Park, and the old fire truck. Among the partiers that day, Jonathan Oliver is bottom right, Drew Fair is under the truck looking up, and Allison Fair is standing at the top.
