Charles Reifers, 76, of Lafayette County, Mississippi.
At approximately 11:25 pm on Wednesday, March 20, 2025, Lafayette County 911 received a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 100 block of Heights Drive. Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff‘s office responded to the scene, where they discovered a deceased individual. The victim was identified as Charlene Cook, 58, of Lafayette County.
Following an on-scene investigation, Charles Reifers, 76, also of Lafayette County, was taken into custody and charged with first degree murder. Reifers is currently being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear before a judge for a bond hearing tomorrow.
“The loss of life is always tragic, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” said Lafayette County Sheriff Joey East. “I want to commend our deputies for their swift and professional response, which ensured the situation was brought under control without further incident.”
No further details will be released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
