Zechariah Lloyd
Current Project(s): Southern Groove Redemption, The B3, Zechariah Lloyd, Brick Drop
Where are you from? Vicksburg, Mississippi
Your music Style/Genre: Southern Rock, Blues/Roots
What is your preferred approach to making sounds? Feel it out. I let my emotion shape the groove. Once you have something to work with, explore it until it is what it’s supposed to be. Have fun with it!
Early music experience: My parents were working musicians when I was young, Mom on the piano and Dad on the drums. So it was always around. I started playing drums at age 12 to Led Zeppelin, Molly Hatchet, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. I didn’t start playing guitar until I went soul searching in Alaska after high school.
How has the music you create changed since the first song you wrote? Well it all changes from song to song and season to season, but I think mostly it’s just become a little more complex or strange. I grew tired of writing “the same ol’ stuff.” I try to push myself to make something new, interesting, or different from everything else.
Why did you start playing? It was just always around. It was just assumed that we would play something. Mom tried to get me to play piano, but I wanted to be a badass like my dad. I started playing guitar because it was a new creative outlet for emotions that were different than playing drums.
What are some of your favorite bands? Led Zeppelin, Allman Bros., Marcus King Band, Derek Trucks Band, Earphunk, Lettuce, Jompson Bros, Chris Stapleton.
Most memorable person you’ve jammed with: Played a show with an Impromptu show at Proud Larry’s with Cary Hudson one time, and that was a magical experience. Prob in my feels, but playing with Jesse Lipe was an amazing experience as well.
Do you have a “day job”? If so, where? Yeah, I’m the Executive Chef at the Alpha Omicron Pi (ΑΟπ) sorority house on campus.
Aspirations: Simple answer is to just be the best at whatever I do. Long term, though, trying to eventually own start a small farm to table restaurant on my farm, sourcing our product from ourselves. Touring and playing music when I want.
