The event for Margerita’s Gridiron Adventure: A Slovenian Lawyer’s Crash Course in American Football Culture will be at Off Square Books at 5:30 pm, Wednesday, August 21.
In mere months, Slovenian-born lawyer Margerita Jurkovic went from knowing literally nothing about American football to not only developing a love for the game, but a fascination with the overarching culture around the sport. She grew to adore her adopted law firm family and the city of Jackson, Mississippi, and along the way she developed a deep affinity for the way Southern men teach their sons about love, honor, and protecting the women they cherish. Paced like a two-minute drill, Margerita’s Gridiron Adventure is humorous, poignant, and eye-opening—a fascinating memoir that will get under your skin and stay there.
Margerita Jurkovic is a Slovenian lawyer with a PhD in criminal law and human rights. She is the CEO of a non-profit that works with victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. As apart of this organization, she also serves as a neutral evaluator in divorce cases. In 2018 she graduated magna cum laude from the Mississippi College School of Law, where she received her second Master of Law.
During her time in Mississippi, she also specialized in negotiations and entertainment law at Frascogna Entertainment Law, a Division of Frascogna Courtney, PLLC. She is a member of the Slovenian Ombudsman Board and has served as a member of a governmental group advocating against human trafficking since 2011. During the Fall of 2018 she traveled throughout the southeast attending football games from youth leagues all the way to university Division I. Her experiences resulted in her first book, Margerita’s Gridiron Adventure, which will be released in August of 2019.
