GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi will receive a marker on the Mississippi Country Music Trail, to be unveiled on Tuesday, July 16, at 5pm ahead of the Big Night With Women in the Round event starting at 7pm. The marker will be located at GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi, 800 W Sunflower Rd in Cleveland.
As the Mississippi Museum’s marker acclaims, the state’s profound contributions to the country music genre can be seen in the many GRAMMY® awards won by artists native to Mississippi, including Tammy Wynette, Marty Stuart, Faith Hill, Charley Pride, Bobbie Gentry, LeAnn Rimes, Carl Jackson and Paul Overstreet. The annual GRAMMY Awards® has been recognizing country music since its inception in 1958, and the genre’s continuing legacy is celebrated at GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi, which opened its doors in 2016.
“We are honored to receive this marker on the historic Mississippi Country Music Trail,” said Emily Havens, Executive Director of GRAMMY Museum® Mississippi. “Mississippi has made incredible contributions to country music, many of which have been celebrated by the GRAMMY Awards® and continue to be honored at our Museum. We are excited to have a permanent place on the Mississippi Country Music Trail to share the history of country music in this great state with future generations to come.”
