Oxford mom creates Cinderella food story
No Time 2 Cook products, produced here in Oxford, hit area Kroger freezers in 2014, and today, strong sales have captured the attention of Kroger Corporate in Cincinnati. In June of this year, No Time 2 Cook became a permanent Kroger item in three Kroger Divisions—Delta, Dallas, and Houston. Today, customers will find No Time 2 Cook with multi-family meals in the main freezer aisle of 300 Kroger stores throughout Mississippi, Texas, and other parts of the Deep South.
No Time 2 Cook is known for its authentic Southern fare specializing in family sized frozen foods for retail markets. This Oxford Company was launched out of owner, Karen Kurr’s, home kitchen when Kurr felt she had something special to share from recipes that had been passed down in her family.
In the beginning, Kurr did everything from cooking and cleaning to delivering her goods to local farmers markets, flea markets, and small retail stores. When growth became more than she could handle, Karen hired friends and family to help. Some original staff members still work for the company taking as much pride as Karen in the quality and integrity of the finished product. The business operated for 6 years out of the Kurr family home in Wellsgate, but when production exceeded house space, Karen built a small USDA plant in north Oxford where she continues to oversee operations.
Through dedication, tenacity, and hard work, this Oxford mom created a Cinderella food story by growing her business from a cottage industry to a successful company with product offered in the second largest grocery chain in the country. The best part is the products being produced for Kroger are the same made-from-scratch casseroles that were once produced in Kurr’s home and sold in local markets. In Oxford, customers can purchase No Time 2 Cook Chicken Pie, Chicken and Dumplings, Chicken and Dressing, Tamale Pie, and Crab and Mushroom Penne at the local Oxford Kroger. In addition, The Depot Antique Mall next to Sears carries their entire line of products including Chicken Tetrazzini, Cajun Pimento Cheese, and much more.
