Garden of Memories Oxford adding above-ground burial to their offerings
Garden of Memories Oxford plans to begin construction on a state-of-the-art community mausoleum in the fall. This structure will be the first of its kind in Lafayette County.
“At Garden of Memories Oxford, we always want to serve our families in the best way possible,” said Matthew Malone, director of cemetery services at the cemetery. “A mausoleum offers those not interested in cremation or traditional burial the option to be entombed above ground.”
The community mausoleum, constructed of granite imported from Italy, will feature an open-air chapel and additional covered area for comfortable visitation. The initial build will allow for 145 crypts, and columbarium niches for those interested in cremation.
The cemetery staff is waiving crypt opening and closing fees for those who reserve a crypt prior to construction, and is providing free bronze nameplates and vases.

“Being entombed in a mausoleum is not the most expensive burial option,” said Malone. “In fact, choosing entombment means there is no need to purchase a burial vault, a cost many have to pay when choosing traditional burial.”
A community mausoleum allows for anyone to reserve a crypt in the structure, not just one family or group, as is the case with a private mausoleum. The structure at Garden of Memories Oxford is being built by Ingram Construction, a group with nearly 50 years of experience and over 350 mausoleum builds under their belt.
The mausoleum is being built adjacent to the main cemetery office at Garden of Memories Oxford, on the northwest corner of the property.
