Here in the busy town of Oxford, Mississippi, there are men who are tied by a common thread of brotherly love, and the love of service to those in need. These men are Freemasons; and member of O.D Smith #33.
Freemasons come from every corner of the world, and at some point, in your life you have heard of the Freemasons. However, you may be thinking what is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry promotes a way that bind like-minded men into a worldwide brotherhood. This brotherhood is comprised of all religious, ethnic, cultural, social, and educational differences, by teaching the grand principles of brother love, relief, and truth. These are outwardly expressed by fellowship with brothers, compassion to those in need, and the ways in which we serve God, family, country, neighbor, and self.
The members of O.D Smith #33 recently partnered with CASA of Lafayette County. CASA is a non-profit organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children in our county. Together and with the help of the community, the members raised $2,500 for the children under CASA’s care. So, to the Oxford community from the members of O.D Smith #33, thank you.
However, a Freemason’s job is never done in our community. O.D Smith #33 will be doing a work weekend at Camp Yocona June 27–28 to lend a hand to help repair the Boy Scout Camp that the Boy Scouts of Lafayette County attend.
Also, O.D. Smith #33 members have begun to sell tickets to the annual Smoked Boston Butt sale. The tickets are $35, and a portion of the proceed will go to the Veteran’s Home here in Oxford. Picked up is on Saturday, July 4, 2020, from 8 am–noon.
