In just her second year at Oxford Intermediate School (OIS), music teacher Briana Brown has made a profound impact – fostering a creative and inspiring learning environment where the music and choir program flourishes.
With a decade of teaching experience, Mrs. Brown has been instrumental in the OIS music program’s growth. This year, she received generous grants from the Peter R. Marsh Foundation and the Oxford School District Foundation, which helped fund a new piano lab set for next school year.
“Mrs. Brown has done a great job recruiting our incoming 6th graders and will be teaching piano at OIS for the first time next year. Her choir roster will be well over 50 students, the most since I’ve been at OIS,” OIS Principal Chase Goolsby said. “Under her leadership, the music program has grown in both size and student engagement. She’s built a space where kids feel proud to express themselves, and I hope they leave her class with confidence, teamwork skills, and a lifelong appreciation for music.”
“There are some academic skills students will have when they leave my classes, but most importantly I hope they learn empathy, kindness, perseverance, self-expression, and generosity of spirit. Excellence will necessarily follow,” Mrs. Brown said.
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Brown is a wife, mother, published author, and a member of Theatre Oxford.
Oxford School District is incredibly grateful for our fine arts educators and the dedication and creativity they bring to our schools and students.
