The Oxford School District is proud to celebrate Sagan Karthikeyan, an Oxford Middle School student, who has made district history by qualifying for the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee – becoming the first Oxford School District student to attend this prestigious national competition.
Sagan earned his spot in the national competition after placing second in the Mississippi spelling bee held in March. The Scripps National Spelling Bee, taking place May 27-29, 2025, in National Harbor, Maryland, brings together students from across the country.
“Sagan, we are beyond proud of you—not just for making it to the National Spelling Bee, but for the hard work, determination, and heart you’ve shown every step of the way. Watching you grow and represent OSD with such grace and intelligence over the years fills us with joy. We know you will shine in Washington just like you have here at home. Go get them, Sagan. We are all cheering you on!” said Marilyn Barnes, OSD Director of Student Development.
Join us in congratulating Sagan on this incredible achievement! We can’t wait to see him shine at Nationals as he represents OMS.
