On November 1, 2024, the Oxford Police Department arrested Timothy Hervey, (20 of Oxford, Mississippi), in connection with a drive by shooting incident that occurred on the 500 block of Hurricane Lane.
On October 31, 2024, at approximately 3:48 pm, officers responded to a report of gunfire at a residence on Hurricane Lane. Investigators on scene found multiple bullet holes in a vehicle parked in the driveway and recovered shell casings and other evidence indicative of gunfire. No one was injured in the shooting. Hervey was identified as the suspect shortly after.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Hervey was also a suspect in a recent burglary in the county.
The Oxford Police Department obtained a search warrant for Hervey’s residence and executed the warrant leading to Hervey’s arrest. During the search, investigators located a handgun matching the firearm that was reported stolen. The handgun and ammunition recovered from the scene are consistent with the type used in the shooting on Hurricane Lane.
Timothy Hervey is currently being held at the Lafayette County Detention Center on charges of drive by shooting and possession of a stolen firearm.
“Our officers and investigators worked tirelessly on this case, gathering evidence and following leads to ensure the safety of our community,” said Chief Jeff McCutchen. “Our commitment to finding those responsible for violent acts remains unwavering and we thank the public for their continued support and cooperation.”
