Members of the group “Mid-South Flaggers” surround the Confederate statue on the Square in Oxford, Mississippi on Saturday, November 16, 2013.
The group said they were there to raise awareness about the University Greys, a group of Ole Miss students who enlisted in the Confederate army in 1861. The University Greys fought throughout the Civil War and had 100% casualities at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863.
The group said they condemned and disavowed the Confederate flag’s use by the Ku Klux Klan and other racist groups.
