  1. My wife and had a very unusual encounter with Jimmy at the Bob Dylan/ Lucinda Williams concert at the Old Auditorium in New Orleans. We were sitting right next to him and a lovely woman from Greeneville. I just asked if he wanted to borrow my binoculars. I was living in New Orleans at the time. To make a fascinating, conversation short, I mentioned Barry Hannah was my favorite writers. Didn’t know anything about Jimmy. But, that perked him up. He later arranged for me to write to Barry Hannah and also to me. Serendipitous, I suppose, is the proper word at this juncture…..I did write to Barry.. His and Jummy’s letters are treasures, I hold dear. Barry wrote many accolades about Jimmy, and only then did I realize what a special human being, a mult–faceted man he was. Well, Katrina hit and I’m now living in Fayetteville, AR.. I will never forget his generosity.
