Charleston and Oxford, Mississippi organizations and residents of both communities are sponsoring a unique exhibit of paintings by self-taught artist Joe Wrenn in Oxford on September 25, 2014.
The exhibit will include performances by renowned Delta artist Bill Abel and Mac Venable of Charleston and is planned as a special activity for residents and community visitors in town for the Memphis vs. Ole Miss football weekend.
Wrenn has been painting for 50 years and only recently was “discovered” the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort (CARE). CARE, Oxford’s Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and residents of both communities are sponsoring the event from 5-8 pm on Thursday, September 25. The reception-show-concert is being held at Oxford’s Powerhouse and is free and includes good snacks, adult beverages.
Abel, a one-man band performs, authentic, Delta Blues – solo, with acoustic, electric, and cigar box guitars (which he makes himself from driftwood & cigar boxes) foot drums. Bill plays in national & international venues.
Joe Wrenn is increasingly being recognized for his talent and recently had shows in Charleston, Hernando and Tunica.
All proceeds from the sale of paintings go to the artist and support of CARE.
