The ninth annual event benefits local chairities and features an Italian theme with an auction, live music, open bar, and more.
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will present its 9th annual Drawdown event Friday, May 17, at the Oxford Conference Center at 7 pm. The Drawdown benefits the Clayton Stevens Trust, which provides support to several charities in the Lafayette Oxford University community, including Interfaith Compassion Ministries, Love Packs, Doors of Hope, and the Oxford Pregnancy Center.
It will be a fun, Italian-themed event with a live silent auction, music by The Dantones, open bar, delicious food by A&N Catering (voted Oxford’s Favorite Catering by readers of The Local Voice), and a chance for attendees to win $10,000.
Returning as the emcee this year, Sparky Reardon said, “I’m looking forward to . . . folks of all ages coming together to have a good time to benefit our Clayton Stevens Fund. The Drawdown was started at first to help us raise money for our building fund. Once the church was built we chose to continue to raise money through this event for those in our community who need our help. It’s great fun to see Oxford and the surrounding areas come together for such a good cause.”
For those who wish to participate in the silent auction, expect fantastic items for bid such as “all-inclusive trip packages to concerts, baseball games, and fishing trips,” Reardon said. “We’ve also added some lagniappe this year with an indoor bocce court, a gelato bar, and a lemoncello bar to go along with all the things that we’ve done in the past.”
The Italian theme will pervade the evening with decorations, food, Italian wines, and the aforementioned bocce, gelato, and lemocello. “It will all be done in the spirit of la dolce vita, the sweet life,” said Reardon.
Music will be provided by Memphis’ The Dantones, an energetic, crowd-pleasing dance party band playing an incredibly huge variety of cover tunes. The Dantones have a distinctive repertoire, amazing talent, and obvious chemistry on stage. Audiences are electrified not only by the range of music they cover, but the quality of their musicianship and the enthusiasm they generate both on stage and on the dance floor.
